How you can make a mood board is described in this article “How to make an interior design mood board“. In this Monday Mood board – Classic Contemporary Home more information to inspire you.
Classic contemporary, the Space
A house from 1903. The rooms have high ceilings and ornamentation. The surface area in square meters is limited, which makes it important not to use too much “heavy” furniture.
Classic contemporary, the Style
How do you make a classic interior design more contemporary?
Blend traditional with modern; To realize this, you must blend the traditional elements (in this case the high ceilings with ornamentation) with more modern elements. This can be done by mixing traditional furniture with modern furniture, or the mix of materials like a classic herringbone wood floor with modern steel doors.
With color and/or patterns you can achieve the same effect. Lit, the often quite dark colors of a classic interior up by the incorporation of neutral colors. A pop of a bold or neon color puts you immediately in a more modern mood. And if you want to use a classic pattern like flowers or a tartan, use it in a new combination of colors.
Use art and decoration, a modern more abstract piece of art turns a classic interior into a timeless interior and think of a modern chandelier instead of a classic one and you can accomplish the same effect.
Declutter! in a formerly classic interior, the house was full of everything one could afford. Try to minimize. Just a few beautiful pieces will make the architecture stand out.

Classic contemporary, Key Elements
Authentic materials, a timeless look, furniture made with an eye for detail and craftsmanship, rich textures, classical colors
Remarks to the mood board:
The color palette with wood, camel, brown (classic) alternates with white/ecru for the modern touch. The tartan gives a tiny pop of color.
The two cabinets are modern pieces but with the detail and craftsmanship you expect in a classic interior. Both cabinets provide the much-desired storage.
The dining chair with wood and rattan gives a more informal touch.
The lamp on the right side of the mood board has clean lines but is timeless.
I assembled the crystal carafes on one table (like mentioned above because of minimizing the decoration) and the two statues in the right corner of the mood board give an impression of classic decoration in white as well as bronze.

Personal touch
Art and decor are great to add a delicate touch to your interior. A good example of classic contemporary is the style of Sophie Paterson, a UK based interior designer. She loves the oaks that surround her house and used this as an inspiration for a wallpaper collection for Fromental. A way to express your personality by showing what is important to you. Take a look at her video channel where you can see different combinations of classic contemporary.
In my home you will find the treble clef on my wineglasses (great gift of the children). So even in the details you can show your personality.
I hope this Monday Mood board – Classic Contemporary Home inspired you to make your own mood board. Once it is complete, use it as a guide throughout the design process. Refer to it when deciding about furniture, decor, and color schemes to ensure consistency with your initial vision.
Enjoy making your mood board.
