Utrecht’s city center offers a rich array of destinations for you, interior design enthusiasts. You do not often find so many interior design shops within walking distance in the city center. Usually, you must go to the home furnishing mall or district for that.
It is also my birthplace! Just lived there till I was 9 years old; I never lived there again but, in my twenties, I studied in Utrecht and now I like to shop there, especially in the center. There is a “Woonboulevard: where a lot of shops are concentrated but this blog is about the center.
So, enjoy some Interior Shopping in Utrecht.
What to visit
I always like to start a blog about Interior Shopping with some other attractions you can visit. This is for you if you have never or seldom been to the city.
Dom Tower
To start with the iconic Dom Tower. It has just been restored. The last few years the tower was covered in scaffolding. But now it is back in all its glory, and you can climb the 465 steps to the top.
The Dom Tower of Utrecht is the tallest church tower in the Netherlands, at 112.32 meters (about the height of the Statue of Liberty) in height. It is considered the symbol of Utrecht. The tower was part of St. Martin’s Cathedral, also known as the Dom Church, and was built between 1321 and 1382, to a design by Jan van Henegouwen.
Rietveld Schröder House
This House, designed by Gerrit Rietveld, is on the UNESCO World Heritage list. It is an example of “De Stijl” architecture. Book in advance if you want to visit the house!
Just two highlights of Utrecht more about the city in a later blog but now Let Us dive into some of the best spots for interior shopping in Utrecht that are sure to inspire your next home makeover.
Schouwburg Utrecht
A great tip from one of my followers, Hans: the Schouwburg Utrecht is a must-see for architecture lovers. This theater combines historic charm with modern design, featuring a beautiful mix of old and new elements. Originally opened in 1941, it has been renovated over the years while preserving its elegant, functionalist style. Whether you’re catching a performance or just admiring the stunning facade and interiors, it’s a fantastic stop on your Utrecht visit.
In October I walked past it with my brother and told about my first visit to the theatre. Cinderella when I was about 6 years old and lived in Utrecht. I can’t believe I didn’t think of mentioning this building before! Thanks Hans and maybe good to put on my to-do list to write an extra blog about Architecture in Utrecht.
Map
The map begins at Hoog Catharijne (A) where you’ll find the first 3 shops. From there, it continues to Oudegracht, Oudkerkhof, and Domstraat. Light green indicates some extra addresses for those seeking additional options.
Interior shopping
Arriving at the Central Station (or in a parking lot around the CS) you are immediately in Hoog Catharijne. It is a large-scale urban development project from the sixties. The Station area is part of this complex, which includes one of the largest indoor shopping centres in the Netherlands, the station, a music centre, offices and apartments.
In Hoog Catharijne you can find:
H&M, Boven Vredenburg passage 108

I can always find something there. Did you know that H&M not only sells decoration but also furniture like sofas online?
This post may contain affiliate links. If you make a purchase through one of my links, I may make a small profit at no expense to you.
Søstrene Grene, Clarenburghplein 3

I do not like the continuous communication about Anna and Clara, for me a little bit too much. But if you want to buy Scandinavian oriented decor, a great shop with low prices.
There is also a shop in the former Post office.
Zara Home, Godebaldkwartier 54

Love their bedlinen!
We are leaving now Hoog Catharijne heading for the “Oudegracht”. This canal crosses the city center, with nice restaurants on the wharves.

Sissi Boy, Oudegracht 124-126
The Homeland collection at Sissy-Boy features basics alongside colorful and bohemian products. Their color palettes are always spot-on. If you enjoy setting a beautiful table, this is the store for you. (You can also visit their location in Hoog Catharijne at Boven Vredenburgpassage 17.)

Continue past the town hall, just around the corner is Het Oudkerkhof. With a slogan that points to the opposite, namely “Oudkerkhof, young and lively” (in Dutch Oud means Old).
Kwartier, Oudkerkhof 7
At Kwartier in Utrecht they have a large collection of lamps and (small) furniture, designs that have stood the test of time. If you liked our Monday Mood board – Modern Vintage, this is a shop for you.

Morpheus, Oud Kerkhof 11

Beds, Beds, and even more beds. Since 1948 Morpheus has offered everything for a good night’s sleep. In Utrecht you can also get personal interior design advice via Morph design.
Leeuwin’s Serviezenhuis, Oudkerkhof 19-23
If you’re looking for German Villeroy & Boch, Scandinavian Iittala, Dutch Delft Blue Heinen, or French Gien, you’ll find them at Leeuwin’s Serviezenhuis. They also offer a wide selection of cooking and kitchen utensils.

Bolia, Oudkerkhof 25

Bolia is a Danish design brand known for its contemporary, minimalist style that emphasizes functionality and craftsmanship. Rooted in Scandinavian design traditions, Bolia combines clean lines, natural materials like wood, leather, and wool, and a neutral yet sophisticated color palette. They do have a magazine full of inspiration: The Journal (do not expect Ikea prices 😉).
Hästens, Oudkerkhof 27
When you see this recognizable blue/white check, you know it is Hästens. A bed brand that has been active for generations and sets the tone in terms of using tons of horsehair. (One of my friends describes it as her best purchase ever!)

Let us take a short stroll over to Domstraat, heading toward the Dom Tower.
Bij den Dom Interiors, Domstraat 3
With a logo created by Dick Bruna, you know this is a store to visit! A collection with design icons, decoration pieces like the Kokeshi dolls and interior advice.

Catch Projecten, Domstraat 5-19

On the Domstraat there is a large art gallery and shop of 1200 m2, where in addition to 1000 original works of art, around 25,000 posters and 6000 different greeting- and postcards are sold.
Now that you are near the iconic Dom Tower, take a moment to admire its stunning beauty. From there, make your way back along the picturesque Oudegracht, leading you toward Hoog Catharijne, back to the station or parking lot.

Hoi Leny,
Prachtig stuk : The almightly sonetimes van Oostpool. Gaan we elkaar nog eens treffen in 2025? Hoor wel wanneer het iedereen past. Veel succes met je woonblok! Hartelijke groet Hans
