Brooklyn has a rich architectural heritage. You might have heard of iconic Brown Stones or Victorian homes. But in Clinton Hill a modern building with garden and patio was the reason to make this week’s mood board. We divided the house into 3 zones; Energy, Rest and Relax. This last zone is a space to sit, read, watch TV, drink some wine, everything that makes you feel relaxed. In this Monday Mood board – Brooklyn Relax – more information to inspire you.
the Space
The space is long and connects to the patio. A beautiful black wall unit (Vitsoe by Dieter Rams) is already present. A good sofa and creating intimacy in the seating area are important.
the Style
A basic contemporary style with Scandinavian influences simplicity, functionality, neutral but warm. More about the Scandinavian interior style here.
Key Elements
- Natural Materials: Because there are tiles on the floor it was important to bring warmth with the sofa and the rug, by using textiles to add warmth and texture to the space.
- Clean Lines and some curves: streamlined furniture sofa and the wall unit. To break up the straight lines of the room, organically shaped chairs and/or a coffee table are a good addition.
- Comfortable Seating: comfortable seating options for the adults and some pouffes to create a lovely place for the children.

Remarks to the mood board:
Black tables, black to give the room some spice and movable furniture that allow for easy reconfiguration as needed.
The pouffes are a color element, easy to adapt to personal taste. With the Scandinavian atmosphere you can also think of other materials such as wicker or rope, natural is also a color!
The rug with the black stripes brings the black of the “bookcase” back into the room, this ensures a connection between the various elements.
When making your choices, pay attention to “layering,” Rough materials versus smooth, matte versus shiny. That makes the interior more interesting.
The tree in the corner of the room (a bit exaggerated on this mood board 😏) makes a connection with the outdoor patio.
There is room for a bar in the “bookcase”. The kitchen is located upstairs, but this way you don’t have to walk up and down the stairs if you want to enjoy a drink in the evening.
