You might recognize this mood board. I wrote about it before in the blog How to make an interior design mood board“. In this Monday Mood board – Beach House – Coastal more information to inspire you.
The space
The space was incredibly special, a “water house” for Stichting Vaarkracht. A boat to sail from A to B and then at the place where it is moored for a few weeks, space is provided for cancer patients to enjoy the calm atmosphere on the water for a day. I was involved from the start to help with the interior.

The Style
The starting point for Vaarkracht: clean lines, calm, it is a “water house” so linked to the water but not an Ibiza beach vibe. Comfortable but also with a table suitable for a business event. The first thing I did was create a mood board.

Key elements
We focused on several key elements like:
- Natural Materials: We incorporated natural materials such as blond wood on the floor, grass cloth instead of rattan accessories and linen look curtains to add warmth and texture to the space. These materials reflect the coastal environment and create a relaxed atmosphere.
- Clean Lines and Minimalism: we wanted streamlined furniture with sleek silhouettes. No clutter (small space so we needed as many cupboards as possible in the kitchen.)
- Comfortable Seating: comfortable seating options as well inside as on the deck. It became a sofa bed in Scandinavian style for the room inside. Some soft cushions and pillows for added comfort. The dining table is important for business guests, but you do not want it to be too big if there are only two or three people staying in the water house. Therefore, an Extendable Milian table 140 (220) x 90 cm from Kave Home. (Look kavehome for extandable tables or “uitschuifbare tafels”)

Remarks to the mood board:
Black side tables, black to give the room some spice and movable furniture that allow for easy reconfiguration as needed.

Color Palette
The color palette is inspired by water and the color of the organization Vaarkracht. Think Vaarkracht blue (RAL5007), light grey, soft blues, sandy beige, and crisp whites. Coastal accents and decor elements that nod to the water house setting without being overly beachy, like the coral (no real coral because that is protected), a vase in blue, related artwork, and a nautical telescope for the final addition.
