In december 2024 bezocht ik Chicago met mijn dochter Janneke, ongeveer zeven jaar nadat ze van Chicago naar New York was verhuisd. We verbleven in het appartement van haar vriendin Sarah. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

De ontmoeting<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Tussen Sinterklaas en Kerstmis gaf Sarah een feestje, dus wilden we haar natuurlijk een cadeau geven. We gingen op zoek naar iets dat mooi in haar interieur zou passen. Voordat Janneke arriveerde, liep ik wat winkels binnen en maakte ik foto's van spullen die ik mooi vond. Uiteindelijk kozen we samen een gieter van MacKenzie-Childs uit. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Op de een of andere manier wekte dat moment mijn interesse in het merk. Ik was het in Europa nog niet echt tegengekomen, maar in de VS leek het overal te zijn. Eenmaal thuis maakte ik er zelfs een kort LTK-post over: https:\/\/liketk.it\/50yMt<\/a> <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Wat ik vooral leuk vond, is dat dit niet mijn eerste kennismaking was. Toen ik mijn foto's terugkeek, ontdekte ik dat ik de stukken van MacKenzie-Childs al in 2010 had vastgelegd, tijdens een bezoek aan Martha\u2019s Vineyard. Voor mij zegt dat iets over de tijdloze charme van de ontwerpen. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Een klein eerbetoon<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

In maart van dit jaar las ik in The New York Times dat Victoria MacKenzie-Childs, de oprichtster van het merk, was overleden. E\u00e9n zin uit het artikel is me bijgebleven: Haar voorliefde voor het combineren van uiteenlopende serviesstukken \u2013 zelfs exemplaren met imperfecties \u2013 is pas de laatste tijd uitgegroeid tot een algemeen geaccepteerde uiting van goede smaak.<\/em> <\/p>\n\n\n\n

De stukken zijn vaak kleurrijk en expressief. Zelf geef ik de voorkeur aan een rustig, neutraal palet, maar ik heb grote bewondering voor haar visie en de wereld die ze samen met haar man heeft gecre\u00eberd. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Met deze post wilde ik gewoon even stilstaan \u200b\u200bbij iets \u2013 en een klein eerbetoon brengen. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
