In December 2024, I visited Chicago with my daughter Janneke, about seven years after she moved from Chicago to New York. We stayed in the apartment of her friend Sarah. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The encounter<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Between Sinterklaas and Christmas, Sarah hosted a party, so of course we wanted to bring her a thoughtful gift. We started looking for something that would fit beautifully into her home. Before Janneke arrived, I wandered through a few shops and took photos of pieces I liked. Together, we eventually chose a watering can from MacKenzie-Childs. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Somehow, that moment sparked my interest in the brand. I hadn\u2019t really seen it in Europe, but in the U.S., it seemed to be everywhere. Back home, I even created a small LTK post about it: https:\/\/liketk.it\/50yMt<\/a> <\/p>\n\n\n\n

What I found especially lovely is that this wasn\u2019t my first encounter. Looking back through my photos, I discovered that I had already captured MacKenzie-Childs’ pieces in 2010, during a visit to Martha’s Vineyard. To me, that says something about the timeless charm of the designs. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

A small tribute<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

In March this year, I read in The New York Times that Victoria MacKenzie-Childs, founder of the brand, had passed away. One line from the article stayed with me: \u201cHer penchant for mixing and matching dishes, even those with imperfections, has only more recently become a mainstream expression of good taste.\u201d<\/em> <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The pieces are often colorful and expressive. I personally lean more towards a calm, neutral palette, but I truly admire her vision and the world she created together with her husband. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

With this post, I simply wanted to take a moment \u2014 and pay a small tribute <\/p>\n\n\n\n
