Monday Mood Board: A Charming Mélange of different styles

Inspiration

Sometimes a room that once felt just right no longer reflects the way you live today. This living room is ready for a quieter, more harmonious look, inspired by a beautiful new area rug.

Because I love different styles, I decided to bring them together under the theme Charming Mélange. A blend of classic, modern, ethnic, and brocante pieces, each adding its own character and story. Together this Monday Mood Board: A Charming Mélange of different styles.

An AI Interpretation

When I created this mood board for a client, AI tools were not yet part of the design process. Out of curiosity, I recently asked AI to visualize the concept.

The result is a more colorful and brocante-inspired interpretation, with softer lines and a richly layered feel. While it differs from the original design, I love how it captures the spirit of Charming Mélange and opens up new possibilities for mixing styles and telling your own story.

An AI interpretation of the style Charming Mélange

Design evolves, tastes change, and inspiration comes from many places. Sometimes a fresh perspective is all it takes to see familiar ideas in a new light.

The Space

The layout of the room will remain largely the same.

The Style

Instead of changing the space, the transformation will come from a few carefully chosen additions, a softer color palette, and by gathering treasured brocante pieces into one dedicated area.

Small changes can make a remarkable difference. The result will be a room that feels calm, collected, and full of personality, a graceful mix where different styles live happily together.

✨ A reminder that you don’t have to choose just one style. Sometimes the most beautiful homes are those that tell your unique story.

Materials

Creating a sense of calm doesn’t mean giving up character. In this Charming Mélange, texture and color work together to bring warmth and personality to the room.

🤎 Woven Rattan
Used in the lighting and a few carefully chosen accessories, black rattan adds an organic touch and subtle contrast.

🤍 Textured Fabrics
Soft fabrics with visible texture bring depth and comfort to the sofa and dining chairs, making the room feel inviting and relaxed.

💙 Blue Painted Wood
A blue cabinet becomes a focal point, with hints of blue repeated in accessories—such as a vase on the dining table—to create a sense of harmony throughout the space.

🌿 The Rug & Accent Pillows
These are the colorful elements that tie everything together. They add energy, pattern, and just the right amount of playfulness to the otherwise calm palette.

Together, these materials create a home that feels collected rather than decorated; a graceful blend of old and new, texture and color, comfort and charm.

Color Palette

Color Palette , Charming Mélange

Choosing colors is about creating a backdrop that allows treasured pieces and textures to shine. For this Charming Mélange, soft and timeless shades bring balance and harmony to the room.

One important rule: I always prefer to choose paint colors after the larger pieces are in place. Sofas and dining chairs often offer fewer color options, while wall colors can easily be adjusted. By starting with the furniture, the entire room comes together naturally and feels beautifully balanced.
