Earth Day
Did you see the Google doodle of today? It always makes me curious what is the background of the doodle. But for today I knew the reason! Because, like every year on April 22, it is “Earth Day”. It is a day held to demonstrate and promote environmental awareness and calls for the protection of our planet. This year’s theme is “Restore our Earth.”
Studio ‘t Landje
One of the things you can do to restore our earth is to plant a tree. My brother and his family started a tree planting day in November last year. We planted a mix of about 700 trees and shrubs. With volunteers and donations, we managed to realize this with 6 groups of 4 people (due to Corona) in the muddy ground.
Coming weeks, I will make some pictures of the results.
Amelanchier Ballerina
Are you thinking about planting a tree? I want to draw your attention to a beautiful and very versatile tree: the “Amelanchier Ballerina.” A beautiful small tree from 5 to 7 meters in height, so not too big!
Versatile because:
- Standard or multi-stemmed
- White flowers in April May
- Bronze and green leaves in summer
- Orange–red leaves in autumn
- And (not yet in my garden) berries in July.
Amelanchier needs a sunny area, soil rich in nutrients and the Amelanchier needs protection from the wind.
In 2008 I planted an Amelanchier in my backyard and enjoyed it every season, so I decided to plant one this year in my front garden. So, if you are thinking of planting a tree, then I wholeheartedly recommend this beauty.
Enjoy Earth Day.
